Virginia L. Smith, 92
Virginia L. Smith, 92, longtime Coeur d'Alene resident, died Aug. 27, 2015, at Life Care Center of Sandpoint.
Virginia L. Smith (Gridley) was born March 22, 1923, in Lewiston, Idaho. She was raised in Coeur d'Alene where she attended Harding Grade School and Coeur d'Alene High School. After attending the University of Idaho, she graduated from St. Luke's School of Nursing in Spokane, Wash. She was married to Francis (Smitty) M. Smith in 1946. After working many years as an R.N. in local doctor's offices and hospitals she retired from nursing to help establish and operate Smitty's Carpets and Draperies with her husband.
She was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, PEO, Mothers Club, 3Cs Book Club, Bible Study Fellowship and a board member and volunteer at Coeur d'Alene Homes.
Virginia is survived by a daughter, Corinne Thompson (Mike) of Sagle, Idaho; a son, Stephen Smith (Yulanda); and grandchildren, Alex Smith (Leanne) of Durham, N.C., Abby Favor (Ryan) of Coeur d'Alene, Brady Smith of Sagle, Joel Smith of Greenville, S.C., and Andrew Smith of Sagle. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Smith and granddaughter Alison Smith.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1700 Pennsylvania Ave., Coeur d'Alene. The family suggests memorials to Life Choices Pregnancy Center, 502 N. Second Ave., Sandpoint, ID 83864.
