POST FALLS - Ali Williams had 23 assists and four blocks as the Coeur d'Alene Vikings beat the Post Falls Trojans 23-25, 25-16, 25-17, 25-19 in the 5A Inland Empire League volleyball opener for both schools at The Arena on Tuesday.

But the win was overshadowed somewhat by an injury suffered in the first game by Coeur d'Alene High standout setter/outside hitter Megan Ramseyer, who has verbally committed to play at Idaho.

Ramseyer, a first team all-state tournament selection last year, injured her left knee when she "landed wrong attacking a tight set on the net," Coeur d'Alene coach Dee Pottenger said.

Pottenger said she was told by athletic trainers that they did not think it was a season-ending injury, and said Ramseyer plans to see a doctor today.

"I'm extremely proud of our team's composure and resilience to get the win," Pottenger said.

Delaney Schmidt had 10 kills, Missy Huddleston 16 digs and Isabella Hollibaugh and Kelly Horning two aces for Coeur d'Alene (2-1), which hosts Moscow on Thursday.

"It was a pretty good match," Post Falls coach Willow Hanna said. "I thought we played really well. Coeur d'Alene's a tough team. They've got great ball control and next time, we've got to find some holes."

Allison Munday had 10 kills and three blocks, Kayla Mayo 14 assists and 11 digs, Sydney Parks three blocks and Sam Hammond two aces for Post Falls (2-1), which hosts Glacier and Sandpoint in a tri-match on Thursday, facing the Bulldogs at 4 p.m., then the Wolfpack at 7.

"I'm proud of how our girls played," Hanna said. "They responded well to the challenge."
