PREP SOCCER: Johnson tallies hat trick in T-Wolves' opener

MOSCOW - Lake City junior forward Havana Johnson opened the season in a big way Tuesday, helping the Timberwolves rout the Moscow Bears 7-0 in nonleague action.

Johnson scored two goals in the game's first three minutes, on her way to a hat trick.

During her freshman and sophomore seasons, Johnson averaged three hat tricks per season.

"She's a pretty special player when it comes to scoring goals," Lake City coach Matt Ruchti said. "She's a good player. They did a good job, bringing things together on the attacking end."

Lake City hosts Post Falls on Thursday in 5A Inland Empire League play.

POST FALLS - Sadie Schmeling scored two goals for the Trojans, but Sterling Healy of the Bulldogs scored the go-ahead goal in the 60th minute in a nonleague win against the Trojans.

All four Sandpoint goals were scored in part because of the Trojans' lapses in their own half of the field, Post Falls coach Sarah Stevens said.

"They were able to capitalize on our defensive mistakes," Stevens said. "We came out strong, I was pleased with our performance. It was good to finally get out there. We're going to build on this."

Post Falls plays a 5A Inland Empire League game on Thursday at Lake City.

BONNERS FERRY - The visiting Tigers used a balanced attack to down the Badgers in an Intermountain League match.

Allison Kirby, Mauri Roth, McKenna Hughes and Carissa Willis scored unassisted goals for Timberlake (2-0, 2-0 IML), which hosts Lakeland on Thursday.

"We still have lots to learn," Timberlake coach Steve Michael said. "We've got a young team this year, and a lot of room for growth."

COEUR d'ALENE - Devon Hoffman had a goal and an assist to lead the Timberwolves past the Bears in a nonleague match at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex.

"I know the guys were getting tired of seeing me at practice all the time," said Lake City coach Chad Beadell, whose team had its last game on Saturday postponed due to poor air quality. "They were just ready to play a game, and the guys played well. We had a couple more chances that we should have put away, but it's still early in the season. We just want to keep getting better each day."

Chase Norris had three saves in posting the shutout for Lake City (2-0), which opens 5A Inland Empire League play Thursday at Post Falls.

SANDPOINT - A second half goal by Roan Allen helped lead the Bulldogs over the Trojans in nonleague play under the lights at War Memorial Field.

Sandpoint (3-1) held Post Falls (1-1) to two shots on goal.

After going scoreless for 60 minutes, Nick Rapoport launched a throw in that bounced around in the box before Allen blasted it into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.

Post Falls plays host to Lake City on Thursday to open 5A Inland Empire League play.
