Meet and greet former Dodger Steve Garvey tonight
SPOKANE - The Spokane Indians and theMobil Super "Go the Distance" Baseball Tourare teaming up to bring former National League MVP Steve Garvey to Avista Stadium tonight as the Indians take on the Everett Emeralds at 6:30.
Garvey, a member of the famous 1970 Spokane Indians, will be on hand to meet and greet fans at Avista Stadium before throwing out the first pitch. Garvey accumulated 10 All-Star Game appearances, four Gold Glove awards and was named 1974 National League MVP during his 19 year MLB career.He holds the record for the highest career fielding percentage by a first baseman and is the only player in the history of baseball to have an errorless season at first base.
Before, during and after the game, Mobil Super brand ambassadors and the Mobil Super Sam mascot will greet fans outside the ballpark, distributing product information, rebate coupons and Mobil Super-branded baseball souvenirs.Fans also have the opportunity to win free product or oil changes through a prize wheel and on-field activities.
Former WSU star Presley signs with professional team
PULLMAN - Former Washington State women's basketball guard Tia Presley signed a contract to play professional basketball in Israel beginning this fall.
Presley will play for Maccabi Bnot Ashdod out of Ashdod, Israel in the Ligat Ha'al, the top division of women's basketball in the country. The team is the defending league champion, having lost just one game during the 2014-15 season. Presley will move to Israel in late September ahead of league competition beginning in late October.
In her time at WSU, Presley was a three-time All-Pac-12 Conference selection. She appeared in 105 games and made 99 starts, seventh-most in school history. The Spokane native scored 1,541 points in her career, third-most in school history and had the fifth-highest career scoring average in school history (14.7 ppg). Presley also ranks third in program history in made free throws (358), seventh in field goals (537), 10th in 3-pointers (109), and 10th in steals (186).
Presley is not the first Cougar women's basketball alumna to compete in Israel. Former WSU guard Jazmine Perkins began her professional career in Israel with top-division team Ramat Sharon. Perkins currently plays in Bulgaria for Haskovo 2012.
Presley's signing continues a string of professional contracts for WSU alumnae. In addition to Perkins, former Cougar standouts Brandi Thomas (Spain), Sage Romberg (Spain), Ireti Amojo (Germany), and Rosetta Adzasu (Finland) are playing internationally.
