MICA: Vote for Hauser, Arhutick
The Mica Kidd Island Fire District election is Nov. 3. I will be voting for positive change. I will be voting for proven leadership. I will be voting for people who can get the job done. Gretchen Hauser and Mike Arhutick fit that description.
Gretchen Hauser, with her perpetual energy will handle the position of commissioner well. Hauser’s experience in previous volunteer boards will help as the commissioners seek to expand the role of volunteers in our fire district. These non-first responders may perform tasks which can help the department run smoothly and allow the firefighters and EMTs to focus on training and performing critical duties. Another position which needs development is a class of Wildland Firefighter. This person doesn’t need the training required to fight structural fires. Past leadership has prevented this vital position in our rural volunteer district. Hauser’s opponent was recalled during the 2014 election and I feel that even considering voting for a recalled ex-commissioner would be foolish.
Mike Arhutick’s past experience leaves him well qualified for commissioner. Arhutick led the MKI Fire District as one of its first commissioners from 2000-2007. The personnel development and equipment needed during this time required quite the effort. Again we are looking at updating equipment and need a leader with fiscal responsibility and knowledge in this area. Arhutick will help expand the role of volunteers to better serve our community as he has in the past. Arhutick’s opponent lacks the leadership and experience in these areas of crucial need.
