Fright forecast: Cold, rain

COEUR d'ALENE — Even the weather is expected to be a little spooky this Halloween if you were banking on no rain and mild temperatures.

"It won't be the best Halloween for people wanting dry weather," meteorologist Randy Mann said.

Mann said there's a 50 percent chance of rain on Saturday night come trick-or-treat time and temperatures will dip into the 40s.

"You're going to want to bundle up," Mann said.

Tracy Ross, who was shopping for costume outfits at Shopko on Tuesday, said she heard that it will likely be a wet weekend. But she said she will not let that rob her and her kids of a sweet time.

"The weather is going to do what the weather is going to do," she said. "We'll dress warm and make the best of it. We may not trick or treat quite as much, but there's other ways to have fun."

Rain is also predicted for Thursday and Friday, then nighttime temperatures will continue to plummet toward the freezing mark early next week.

"Some areas such as Spirit Lake have already reached the freezing mark at night," Mann said.

The predicted moisture is needed, especially with the stretch from June 2 to now being the driest on record, Mann said.

He said snow could fall in the mountains next week.

"The first week of November will be chilly, then it will warm up again," he said.

Next week's weather will be a drastic change from the mild fall this year, Mann said.

Much of the precipitation this winter will be in the form of rain and about half the normal amount of snow is expected to fall, Mann said.

"It should be similar to last year," he said.
