MARTIAL ARTS

Locals shine: KTigers Taekwondo, a local martial arts club, competed at the Washington State Governor’s Cup on Oct. 24. The competition had close to 1000 competitors this year from over 65 different martial arts schools from all over the Inland Northwest and Canada, but KTigers was the only school representing the Kootenai County/Spokane County area. This year, a total of 25 students from KTigers Taekwondo attended and competed in various Poomsae(form), board breaking and sparring categories. KTigers brought home a total of 15 first-place gold medals, 18 second-place silver medals, and 11 bronze medals.

Coeur d’Alene Sting under-8 boys: The Sting beat FC Spokane gold-Mays 4-2 on Saturday, as Parker Sterling scored a hat trick and Benjamin McElvany scored once.

Sting U14 girls: The Sting lost 2-1 to ASE Emerald. Madyson Smith scored the Sting goal off an assist by Zoe Cox.

Sting U14 boys Liverpool: The Sting beat the Spokane Shadow Vierra 01 3-1 at Canfield Middle School. Cameron Dance has two goals and one assist for the Sting, and Cameron Calebretto had one goal.

Sting U13 boys Arsenal: The Sting beat the Spokane Pumas 5-0 on Saturday, with Martin Bene earning the shutout in goal. Michael Schlotthauer scored two goals, one on a diving header. Connor Waddell scored with a header and Rylan Carter and Christopher Swider each scored once.

Sting U9 girls: The Sting beat the Shadow U10 Valley 3-0 on Saturday. Skye Sijan scored the first goal and Amelia Hadley scored twice.

On Sunday, the Sting girls lost to FC Spokane G06 Gold-McGarity 5-4. Hadley Green and Lydia Lehosit each scored once, and Brooklyn Paskett scored twice for the Sting.

Sting U9 boys: The Sting Ronaldo lost 4-3 to the Shadow BU10 White on Saturday. Keaton Gust scored two goals, Max Cervi-Skinner one for the Sting.

On Sunday, the Sting Messi fell 4-1 to Washington East SC Hamer-Beznaiguila. Philip Du scored for the Sting.

Sting U10 girls: The Sting played the FC Spokane Gold Shade to a 2-2 tie on Saturday. Avery Waddington and Lauren Bengtson scored for the Sting.

The Sting Spirit beat the Spokane Shadow 9-2. Spirit goals were scored by Ashlynn McKlendin, Grace Breisacher, Mira Crawford, Emma Lund, Nyah Lund, Lauren Bengtson, Avery Waddington, Kelsey Carroll and Gabrielle Henkle.

Sting U11 boys: On Saturday, the Sting 04-05 Yellow defeated Washington East SC B04 O’Neal 1-0. Jack Meehan scored the goal from Cooper Prohaska’s assist.

On Sunday, the Sting beat the undefeated Spokane Pumas ’04 Premier, 3-1. Sting goals were scored by Byron Anderson, Chris Mongan and Cooper Prohaska. Alexander Nipp had 16 saves in goal for the win.
