State volleyball, cross country on tap this week
It’s state high school volleyball week, with five of the six tournaments scheduled for Kootenai County gyms.
The 5A tournament is at Post Falls High, the 4As are at Coeur d’Alene High, the 3As are at Lake City High, the 2As are at Lakeland High, the 1A Division I tourney is at Timberlake High, and the 1A Division II tourney is at Lewiston High.
All tournaments are scheduled to run Friday and Saturday.
Only four District 1 teams qualified for state — Coeur d’Alene (5A), Timberlake (3A), St. Maries (2A) and Kootenai (1A Division II).
Also in our neck of the woods this week are the state high school cross country meets, slated for Saturday at Farragut State Park.
MOST AREA prep football teams jump into playoff mode this week, or after a bye, next week.
Coeur d’Alene (7-2), despite its loss to Post Falls last week, holds the top 5A seed from the North, and will host either Madison (8-1) or Timberline (7-2) in two weeks. Those two teams meet Friday in Rexburg. Lewiston (8-1) plays host to Meridian (4-5) this Friday in a first-round game.
Lakeland (1-8), which picked a good time to win its first game last week vs. Moscow, will play host to Middleton (4-5) on Friday in a state 4A playoff game. Sandpoint (6-3), the top seed from the North, earns a first-round bye, and will play host to either Kuna (6-3) or Skyview (3-6) in two weeks. Those two meet this Friday at Kuna.
In the state 3A playoffs this weekend, Timberlake (6-2) plays host to Parma (4-4), and Bonners Ferry (4-4) travels to Fruitland (6-2), both on Saturday.
In the state 2A playoffs this weekend, St. Maries (7-1) plays host to New Plymouth (4-4), and Orofino (4-4) travels to Nampa Christian (6-2). Dates and times have yet to be announced. Grangeville (5-3) hosts McCall-Donnelly (2-6) on Friday.
In the state 1A Division I playoffs, Wallace (6-1) travels to top-seeded Prairie on Thursday (8-0).
In 1A Division II, the regular season wraps up this week for area White Star League teams.
