SPEAKER: Just keep your promises
Mr. Reno wrote a letter to The Press regarding Congressman Labrador. I tried to just skim over what he was saying because as soon as I saw name calling rather than rational discussion, I knew there would not be much substance in the letter. I wouldn’t expect anything Congressman Labrador does would satisfy Mr. Reno.
Let’s talk facts. Sixty-two percent of Republicans feel betrayed by their party because the party has ignored the promises made to us. They are not upset because the Republicans have not compromised but because they will not stand up for all the issues that are so important to us. Speaker Boehner promised he would change how the House operates and be more inclusive. Shortly after Boehner was reelected Speaker, Congressman Labrador and eight other conservative leaders in the House helped found the Freedom Caucus to ensure that the Speaker followed through on his promises. Since then they have grown to about 40 members who strive to be the voice for the countless Republicans who feel they have been betrayed.
Now the House has a chance to elect someone to be Speaker who will allow all the Republicans we have sent to Washington to have a voice in the House, to bring forth legislation, offer amendments and debate them on the floor of the House. Congressman Labrador has always kept his promises to us and I can only hope the next elected Speaker of the House will do the same!
