PREP VOLLEYBALL: Coeur d'Alene, Lake City sweep

COEUR d’ALENE — Missy Huddleston had 10 kills, six digs and four aces to lead the second-seeded Coeur d’Alene Vikings past the third-seeded Post Falls Trojans 25-17, 25-16, 25-15 in the opening round of the 5A Region 1 tournament on Saturday at Coeur d’Alene High.

Sydney Bybee had five kills and three blocks, Ali Williams 14 assists and seven aces, Isabella Hollibaugh eight assists and four digs for Coeur d’Alene (20-4), which advances to the regional title game on Tuesday at Lake City at 7 p.m.

Allison Munday had seven kills and seven digs, Kayla Mayo seven assists, Kali Minden two aces and Sydney Parks two blocks for Post Falls (15-17), which faces Lewiston in a loser-out match on Tuesday.

COEUR d’ALENE — The top seeded Timberwolves beat the fourth seeded Bengals 25-21, 25-20, 25-22 in the opening round of the 5A Region 1 tournament.

Individual statistics were not available.

“It was a solid team win with balanced attacking throughout the three sets,” first-year Lake City coach Brian Hosfeld said. “Lewiston played great defense and put a lot of pressure on us to score from all areas of the court. I’m proud of how our team handled themselves today. It’s easy to be looking ahead when you’ve beaten a team twice, but we found a way to get it done and supported each other throughout the match.”

On Tuesday at 7 p.m., Lake City (22-4) hosts Coeur d’Alene in the regional championship match and Lewiston (14-13) travels to Post Falls in a loser-out match.

Lumberjacks to 2A District 1-2 title match; Panthers out

TROY — Kari Ghramm had 12 kills and nine digs, leading the top-seeded Lumberjacks past the third-seeded Maniacs 25-11, 25-16, 25-13 in the semifinals of the 2A District 1-2 tournament at Troy High.

“The girls played well from start to finish,” St. Maries coach Amy Scheer said. “They were ready to go and communicated on the court from start to finish. Our serving was really good and only missed a few all day. It was an all-around great day today.”

Kelsey Auer had 21 assists and Kaylee Auer had four blocks for St. Maries (17-1) against Orofino. The Lumberjacks will face the winner of the Grangeville-Orofino match in the championship game on Thursday at 8 p.m.

Earlier, Ghramm had 14 kills and 13 digs as the Lumberjacks beat fourth seeded Coeur d’Alene Charter 25-10, 25-17, 22-25, 25-16.

“We had some lulls in the third game and got kind of quiet and they had to re-evaluate their goals,” Scheer said. “They had to get loud in the fourth game, and it showed they wanted it. But they played really well all day.”

Devyn Wilson had 13 kills, Kelsey Auer 34 assists and Kaylee Auer six blocks against Coeur d’Alene Charter.

Coeur d’Alene Charter was eliminated by Grangeville in a loser-out game to finish 4-10.

Lakeland downs Timberlake

SPIRIT LAKE — Lilly Sellers had eight digs and Sierra Mayberry had five blocks and three kills, leading the Hawks past the Tigers 25-20, 25-13 in a nonleague match.

“I thought the kids played really well,” Lakeland coach Kylee Garitone said. “They looked relaxed and confident. Our passing was really consistent and that was the deciding factor for us.”

Brooklyn Bunch had five digs and two aces for Lakeland (7-16), which plays at Moscow in a loser-out match in the 4A Region 1 tournament on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Bear Den.

Jacquelyn Mallet had nine kills, Kenzie Dean four kills and five digs, Matraca Rocheleau 16 assists and Courtney Jurgens four digs for Timberlake against Lakeland.

Earlier, Reardon beat Lakeland 20-25, 25-15, 15-8 and Timberlake 22-25, 25-22, 15-11.

Mayberry had seven aces, 10 kills and five digs and Mattisyn Cope had six kills and two blocks for the Hawks against Reardon.

Dean had eight kills, three digs and one ace, Mallet seven kills and seven digs and Rocheleau 23 assists and one ace in in the Tigers’ loss to Reardon. Timberlake (20-9) hosts the 3A District 1 tournament starting on Tuesday. The Tigers will face Priest River at 7 p.m., preceded by Bonners Ferry vs. Kellogg at 5:30.

POST FALLS — Laura Vidovich had 10 digs and four kills to lead the Jaguars past the Tigers 25-15, 25-23, 22-25, 25-22 in a North Star League match at Post Falls Middle School.

It was the first win for Genesis Prep (1-9, 1-9 NSL) in its first year as an Idaho High School Activites Asssociation program. Josie Scribner had three blocks and 10 kills and Hayden Chisum had eight digs and two kills for Genesis Prep.

Mullan and Genesis Prep will play again Thursday at a site to be determined in a loser-out match in the 1A Division II District 1 tournament.
