NIC SOCCER: Lowery records hat trick for Cardinal women
• WOMEN
YAKIMA, Wash. — Freshman Meg Lowery had three first half goals, and added an assist in the 46th minute for North Idaho College in a 5-0 win over the Yakima Valley Yaks in a Northwest Athletic Conference match on Saturday.
“It was a dominating performance by Meg with three goals and one assist,” NIC coach Dan Hogan said. “She probably would have had five goals herself if the Yakima Valley keeper hadn’t come up big on a couple of other shots she attempted.”
Alissa Jolliff had a goal and assist for NIC (6-4-2, 4-2-1 NWAC), which travels to Columbia Basin College of Pasco, Wash., on Wednesday.
Treasure Valley, NIC and Columbia Basin are tied for second in the East Division with 16 points and four games remaining.
Yakima Valley is 5-6-3, 1-6-2 with five points.

COEUR d’ALENE — At Eisenwinter Field, the host Cardinals (5-6-4, 3-4-4 NWAC) were shut out for the third straight game, and played to a scoreless tie for the second straight game.
“That’s the big story — we struggled defensively, but then we’ve played better on defense lately,” NIC coach Ken Thompson said. “But our attack never got in full force today. Things are just out of sync a little bit.”
NIC played without leading scorer Hamidou Kante (hamstring). Alec Maldonado lofted one over the keeper late in the first half, but it bounded just wide of the goal. Maldonado later picked up a second yellow card, and won’t play Wednesday when NIC visits Columbia Basin (6-7-1, 5-6-0), which is tied for third in the East Division with Treasure Valley (7-6-3, 4-4-3), each with 15 points. NIC has 13. Community Colleges of Spokane (8-4-3, 6-3-2) leads with 20 points, and Walla Walla (6-2-6, 4-2-4) is second with 16.
