Doris Jean Ford, 92, of Post Falls, Idaho, passed away on Oct. 14, 2015. She was born in Alexandria, S.D., on the family farm Sept. 22, 1923. She was born to Henry and Alma Paulson and was the oldest of nine siblings.
In 1941, she married Donald Kewley, in Laverne, Minn., and they began their life together. A few years later they had three children: Donna Jean, Donald Edward Jr. and Kathryn Ann. They had a family farm in Alexandria until 1959 when they moved to Sylmar, Calif. Donald Sr. passed away in 1964 and Doris went to night school and received her high school diploma. Doris then went to college and became a registered nurse. In 1966, she married Jim Ford in San Fernando, Calif.
Doris enjoyed her work as a registered nurse, starting out her career at Olive View hospital in Sylmar. In 1977, they moved to Rathdrum, Idaho, to be closer to family. Doris worked in several nursing homes in the area and also taught the CNA class at North Idaho College for many years. They bought their home in Hauser Lake and Doris retired in 1986. She started enjoying her retirement by gardening, canning, making crafts, spending time with family and spoiling her grandchildren. She was very active in church activities at the McGuire Wesleyan Church and later attended First Presbyterian Church in Post Falls. In 1991, Jim Ford passed away and soon after Doris moved into Post Falls where she resided until her passing.
She is survived by her children, Donna Rolph (Don) of St. Louis, Don Kewley (Carol) of Post Falls and Kathy Derby of Hauser Lake; her siblings, John Paulson (Ruth) of Carson, N.D., Jim Paulson (Darlene) of Mitchell, S.D., Chuck Paulson (Lois) of Mitchell, Rose Drye (John) of Santa Clarita, Calif., and Joann Gerdes (Red) of Sioux Falls, S.D.; grandchildren Brenda, Angie and Lynda of St. Louis, Allan of Coeur d’Alene, Melissa of Hauser Lake, Allison of North Bend, Wash., Lance and Adam of New Hampshire and Amanda of Edmonds, Wash.; and great-grandchildren Eric, Alex, Jacqueline, Luke, Gracelynne, Darby, Ian, Connor, Ellie, Jaret, Jace, Kelsey, Stormy, Zander, Zackary, Isaac, Abigail, Ruth, Seth, Josh, Luke and Caleb.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Alma Paulson; siblings Ted Paulson, Norman Paulson and Mary Sampson; and son-in-law Allan Derby.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, 2015, at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 3983 W. Prairie Ave., Hayden, Idaho. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of North Idaho, 2290 W. Prairie Ave., Hayden, ID 83835.
