One team (the Coeur d’Alene Vikings) is 6-1 and winners of six in a row.

The other team (the Lake City Timberwolves) is 2-5. Both teams are coming off victories in their 5A Inland Empire League openers last week.

In any event, Coeur d’Alene High football coach Shawn Amos said you can throw the records out the window with the Vikings and their city rivals, the Lake City Timberwolves meet.

“I’m sure they’ll be amped up,” Amos said. “It’s on their home field ... your crosstown rivals, you come ready to play. You better be ready to play; we’ve seen a lot of weird things happen ... ”

Coeur d’Alene and Lake City collide tonight at 7 at Lake City High, with the winner moving into sole possession of firt place in the league. In an attempt to avoid long lines at the ticket gate, Lake City is selling game tickets today in the school office from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Lake City won last year’s matchup, 45-42 in overtime at Coeur d’Alene, en route to the league title. Before that, Coeur d’Alene won the previous six meetings.

Post Falls (3-4, 0-1 5A IEL) at Lewiston (6-1, 0-1): The Trojans are coming off a 21-15 loss at home to Lake City in the league opener. Lewiston suffered its first loss last week, 56-28 at Coeur d’Alene. Post Falls has won three straight from Lewiston, and five of the last six.

Lakeland (0-7) at Pullman (4-2): Coming off a 48-14 loss at Sandpoint last week in their 4A Inland Empire League opener, the Hawks travel to the palouse for a nonleague tilt. The Greyhounds have dropped two straight. If Sandpoint wins at Moscow tonight, next week’s Moscow at Lakeland game will be for the league’s second berth to the state playoffs.

Kellogg (0-6, 0-1 Intermountain League) at Timberlake (4-2, 1-0): Kellogg lost 53-12 at Bonners Ferry last week in its IML opener, while Timberlake blanked Priest River 56-0.

Deary (6-0, 3-0 White Star League) at Kootenai (0-6, 0-5): Kootenai’s final league game of the season comes against the Mustangs, tied for first in the White Star League with Kendrick.

Lakeside (1-5, 1-2 White Star) at Timberline (4-1, 2-1): The Knights are coming off a bye. Timberline’s only loss was a 50-0 setback at the hands of Deary.
