Post Falls city council election funds disclosed

POST FALLS — Councilman Joe Malloy has the largest war chest in the Post Falls City Council races, according to the 30-day financial disclosures filed on Monday.

Malloy, the incumbent for Seat 3 on the council, started his campaign with $1,206 and has raised an additional $1,745 from six donors to his campaign.

He is also the biggest spender in the Post Falls races so far. He spent $756, mostly on campaign literature, and still has $2,195 in his war chest.

His challenger, former Mayor Clay Larkin, has only raised $500 from a single donor, Chuck Lemphesis. Larkin spent nearly $385 on screenprinting so far, and has a balance of $115 left in his campaign fund.

Council Seat 5 is an open seat vacated by retiring Councilman Skip Hissong. Lynn Borders has raised the second-highest amount of campaign cash, reporting he has raised $1,557 to date. He has spent $517 on advertising and screenprinting, and has banked $1,040. He has a total of four donors including Hissong and former Post Falls Mayor Jim Hammond. Chuck Lemphesis also donated to his campaign.

Borders' challenger, Barry Rubin, has only raised and spent $40 so far, and that went to the city of Post Falls for his candidate filing fee.

Seat 1, which is currently held by Councilwoman Kerri Thoreson, is being challenged by a write-in candidate named Tom Barrett. Neither Thoreson nor Barrett have raised or spent any money.

There will be another disclosure seven days prior to the election.
