Robert Alyn Marsh, 85
Sept. 22, 1930 - Sept. 26, 2015
As written by his children:
Robert (Bob) was born in rural Brainerd, Minn. He grew up as country boy; hunting, trapping, fishing, logging with horses and walking to and from school uphill through 2 feet of snow. After high school, Dad entered into the Navy and soon after married Alberta (Abby) Frances Emin; he served 14 years in naval aviation. Bob continued his love of aviation working for Northern Pacific Railroad as their Fan Jet Falcon mechanic.
Dad fulfilled his dream of owning a family resort in central Minnesota; teaching the kids his and mom’s good work ethics. He also worked in auto sales for a number of years in Detroit Lakes, Minn. Mom and Dad traveled many places in their motor home and their love of warm weather drew them to Laughlin, Nev., where they both worked in the casino industry until they retired.
After retiring they moved to Post Falls, Idaho, to be near family. During retirement he built decorative lighthouses with glass insulators for the beacon. He was known around the area as the “Insulator Man.”
Bob is survived by his brother, Lanny W. (June) Marsh; children Lanny C. (Karen) Marsh, Linda (Ron) Grossman, Keith (Randi) Marsh and Kevin (Haley The Border Collie) Marsh; grandchildren Heather (John) Lieber, Justin Marsh, Jordan (Jami) Marsh, Tanner Marsh and Andrew Grossman; and great-grandchildren, Jasper and Stella Marsh, Ava, Johnny and Emma Lieber.
Dad was preceded in death by our mother, his wife of 63 years, Alberta (2013); brother Paul; sister Joanne and recently his beloved cat, Stalker.
Bob passed away in Spokane, Wash. Mom and Dad will be interred together in Minnesota at a later date. A family celebration of Dad’s life was held at his son’s home in Otis Orchards, Wash.
