COEUR d’ALENE — The host North Idaho College Cardinals jumped out to a 2-0 lead early, but were unable to hold on late playing a man down as the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch earned a 4-3 Northwest Athletic Conference win on Saturday at Eisenwinter Field.

“It was a wild game,” NIC coach Dan Hogan said. “We had more of the possession and two goals early. The first goal was all effort by Katelyn Sly as she kept shooting admist a group of Spokane players and finally got one to go into the goal.”

NIC back Lexi Smith was given a red card for an altercation with Spokane’s Stephanie Overland. Overland went on to record a hat trick, with the final goal in the 87th minute proving to be the difference.

“Having to play almost 60 minutes a player short definitely hurt us in the end,” Hogan said. “I think our defenders finally got tired and could not stay with Overland, who is a very crafty player.”

NIC (5-4-2, 3-2-1 NWAC) hosts Wenatchee Valley on Wednesday.

Spokane (10-0-1, 7-0-0) leads the East Division with 21 points. With the loss, NIC is in a three-way tie for third in the division with Columbia Basin and Walla Walla with 10 points each.
