PREP ROUNDUP: Timberlake boys win IML soccer title

SPIRIT LAKE — Cody Bentley scored four goals as the Timberlake Tigers won the Intermountain League title in just their second year as a boys soccer program, beating the Orofino Maniacs 10-0 on Thursday at Van Tuinstra Memorial Field.
Timberlake (11-5, 7-1 IML) is off until the semifinals of the 3A District 1-2 tournament Tuesday at Community United Methodist Church Field in Coeur d’Alene.
“We came out really, really slow and it took us a while to get going,” Timberlake coach Bert Bentley said. “We ended with a lot of freshmen and sophomores getting some goals at the end and were able to get some guys some goals that haven’t scored this season.”
Orofino is 0-9-1, 0-7-1.

COEUR d’ALENE — Beau Chandler had a goal and an assist in the first half for the visiting Timberwolves, who beat the Vikings in a 5A Inland Empire League match.
Lake City (10-1-1, 6-0-0 5A IEL) finished league play unbeaten for the second straight year.
“We made some mistakes in the first half,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Lake said. “I’m proud of how we played in the second half and learned from those mistakes, and I think the result shows that, even though we lost the match.”
On Saturday at 2 p.m., Lake City hosts Post Falls (5-7-1, 1-4-1) and Coeur d’Alene (5-6, 3-3) hosts Lewiston (1-4-1 in league) in the opening round of the Region 1 tournament.

COEUR d’ALENE — Sophia Schnepf scored a pair of goals for the Hawks, who outscored the host Panthers 3-0 in the second half for a nonleague win at Community United Methodist Church Field.
“This was good preparation for districts and it gave our younger players a chance to play against some tough competition,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Dave Baxter said.
Cecelia McAfee scored both goals for Coeur d’Alene Charter (11-4-1), which faces the winner of the St. Maries/Bonners Ferry match in the semifinals on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
Harley Hendry had a goal and an assist for Lakeland (5-6-3), which hosts Moscow in the opening round of the 4A Region 1 tournament on Monday at 3:30 p.m. at the Sunrise Rotary Soccer Complex in Rathdrum.

SPIRIT LAKE — Jacquelyn Mallet had seven kills and four aces for the Tigers in a 25-16, 25-22, 25-21 win over the Trojans junior varsity.
Matraca Rocheleau had 19 assists and six digs and Courtney Jurgens eight digs for Timberlake (19-7), which travels to Priest River on Tuesday.

PLUMMER — Devyn Wilson had 18 kills for the Lumberjacks in a 25-17, 25-13, 25-19 nonleague win againsts the Knights.
“We’ve been working at changing some stuff around and things went really well,” St. Maries coach Amy Scheer said. “It was great to get on the floor before our big league matches on Saturday.”
Lauryn Hill had six digs, Kaylee Auer three blocks, Kari Ghramm eight digs and Kelsey Auer 32 assists for St. Maries (13-1), which competes in Central Idaho League matches against Orofino and Grangeville on Saturday in Grangeville.
Talia Hendrickx had 18 assists and six digs for Lakeside (5-8). Lillian Rhea had eight blocks, five kills and four aces, Cailyn Dohrman six kills and five blocks, Te’a Lambert five kills and six digs, Rachael Arthur seven digs.
“St. Maries came in very strong, but our kids didn’t back down from their intense hitting,” Lakeside co-coach Karyn Stockdale said. “We’re proud of their tenacity and their teamwork.”
Lakeside faces North Idaho Christian tonight at 6 at Holy Family Catholic School in Coeur d’Alene.

CLARK FORK — Brooke Stevens had 15 assists and Leslie Kiebert had six kills and three aces, leading the Wampus Cats to a 25-16, 25-16, 25-13 win over the Jaguars in North Star League play.
Alison Warner, Sarah Holderman and Hailey Bristow had three kills each for Clark Fork (9-5, 7-1 NSL).
Genesis Prep is 0-7, 0-7.

KOOTENAI — Grace Gipson and Rayla Andrews each finished with a team-high six kills, for North Idaho Christian, which fell to the Kootenai Thunder 25-17, 25-15, 18-25, 25-18 in Mountain Christian League play.
Andrews led the Royals (4-9, 2-4 MCL) in digs with seven. Katelyn Stegman finished with 13 aces and 15 assists.
North Idaho Christian plays Lakeside tonight at 6 at Holy Family Catholic School.
