Mildred Lois Freeman, 97

| October 8, 2015 8:09 AM

Mildred Lois Freeman passed away peacefully on Sept. 29, 2015, at Hospice of North Idaho on Prairie Avenue in Coeur d’Alene, after a fall. Mildred was born on Sept. 16, 1918, in St. Louis, Mo., to Frederick and Corrine Horman. She had three brothers, all of whom preceded her in death, along with their parents.

She was married to Russell Cartwright at a young age, and they created three wonderful sons together. They divorced while the boys were quite young, and in 1949 she married Wilbur W. Freeman; they enjoyed a happy and long marriage until his death in July 1994.

Mildred worked very hard most of her life, and for many years as a real estate agent and broker. For recreation she enjoyed bowling, playing cards (especially poker) and spending time with her grandchildren.

She loved elegance and dressing up, and beautiful places and things, and her family. She loved traveling, church activities and luncheons with friends.

She volunteered with a group of ladies to “Feed the Children” before school in her hometown of Sun City, Calif., and every February to mid-April she could be found working in an office helping seniors get their tax returns done by AARP as a courtesy to seniors. She loved volunteering when it meant helping someone who needed help. She was active in her church in Sun City, Faith Lutheran/Missouri Synod. One of her most cherished times was a “Happy 90th Birthday” cruise to Alaska with her sons and their wives, and granddaughter Tamara and her husband Randy.

In April of 2013, health concerns forced her to move to North Idaho to be near her youngest son, Robert (and wife Anne), so she was installed at Garden Plaza in Post Falls, where she made several cherished friends.

Mildred is survived by her sons, Russell (and Susan) Cartwright of Palm Desert, Calif., Dale Cartwright of Mountain Home, Idaho, and Robert (and Anne) Cartwright of Post Falls; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She will be interred at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif., with her husband Wilbur.

Mildred’s family would like to thank the personnel at Garden Plaza, Post Falls; the caregivers at The Courtyard, Coeur d’Alene; Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, and Dr. Robert Hagen for all their expertise and caring help in these past 2 1/2 years. Thank You so much.
