COEUR d’ALENE — Havana Johnson scored a pair of first half goals, leading the Lake City Timberwolves past the Coeur d’Alene Vikings 2-0 under the lights at the Lake City High football field to claim a third-straight 5A Inland Empire League championship.
“The girls played well tonight,” Lake City coach Matt Ruchti said. “We’re just trying to get better so we can play well on Saturday. We’re trying to get better each day and play good soccer. If we tend to do that, we play well. We’re going to try and keep that going and produce on Saturday.”
On Saturday at noon, top-seeded Lake City (10-0-2, 6-0-0 5A IEL) will host fourth-seeded Post Falls (2-10-1, 0-6) and second-seed Coeur d’Alene (7-3-1, 4-2) will host Lewiston (6-6-2, 2-4) in the opening round of the Region 1 tournament.

COEUR d’ALENE — Stephanie Kociela had four kills, four aces and seven digs as the Panthers beat the Warriors 25-23, 25-11, 25-15 in a nonleague match at Holy Family Catholic School.
“It was really nice that we could put three games in a row together,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Ian Kelsey said. “It worked out really well for us tonight.”
Paxton Dotson had 10 assists and four kills, Kaili Gentry seven kills and four blocks, Grace McInturff four blocks and five kills, Brook Larson seven digs and two kills and Madison Napierala had one ace for Kootenai (12-6), which travels to Clark Fork on Tuesday.
Soersha Lewis had five blocks, Jackie Callahan six aces, six digs and one kill and Nicole Young three kills, two aces and three digs for Coeur d’Alene Charter (3-6), which travels to face the Kellogg JV tonight at 6 p.m. at Andrews Gymnasium.
