LEWISTON — Devon Hoffman scored two goals and added an assist, leading the Lake City Timberwolves to a 6-1 victory over the Lewiston Bengals at Walker Field on Tuesday to clinch their third straight 5A Inland Empire League title.
LEWISTON — Devon Hoffman scored two goals and added an assist, leading the Lake City Timberwolves to a 6-1 victory over the Lewiston Bengals at Walker Field on Tuesday to clinch their third straight 5A Inland Empire League title.
“We’ve still kind of hoave some new guys figuring things out,” Lake City coach Chad Beadell said. “I’m happy with the guys. Winning league is the first prority, then trying to win a regional title. We’ve got the league, so now we’re on to getting prepared for regionals.”
Garrett Harrison had a goal and an assist in the first half for Lake City (9-1-1, 5-0 5A IEL), which wraps up league play at Coeur d’Alene on Thursday.
“We played all 20 guys today,” Beadell said. “We came out, and you never know when you come down here what to get, but I’m very impressed with how we played. The guys were focused and played good soccer. I’m very happy with how everything turned out.”
Lewiston is 1-4-1 in league.

“We had a lot of good opportunities and a couple that went off the post,” Lakeland coach Andrew Craig said. “I thought we played very solid. I wish we could have gotten a couple more goals, but hope we can keep the momentum going into regionals.”
Lakeland (11-2-2, 2-0-2 4A IEL) is off until regionals. Moscow (3-7, 0-3) hosts Sandpoint on Thursday. If Sandpoint loses or ties, Lakeland will be the top-seed to regionals.

“We’ve got Coeur d’Alene tomorrow and the girls wanted to make sure we didn’t look past this game,” Lake City coach Matt Ruchti said. “Their approach was passive against Lakeland and Sandpoint, but the girls wanted to get after it today and did. Our back line played solid, and all the goals were good from the build-up to the execution. We looked like the team we had a couple of weeks ago and it was a great team effort all the way through. I’m really proud of them.”
Mariah Morgan scored two goals for Lake City (9-0-2, 5-0 5A IEL), which hosts Coeur d’Alene tonight at 6 at the football field.
Lewiston (6-6-2, 2-4) will the be third seed in the 5A Region 1 tournament, which begins Saturday.

“It was a great team effort on senior night,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Dave Baxter said. “Freshman forward Cali Shipman is getting better with each game. Brooklyn Cunningham gives her teammates everything she has in every game, and I have so much respect for that.”

Sterling Healy and Caroline Suppiger scored in the first half for Sandpoint (5-5-3), who led 2-0 at halftime and was never headed.
Maddie Graangard had several great stops in the second half to keep the game close for Post Falls, which returns to action Saturday at either Lake City or Coeur d’Alene in the first round of the 5A Region 1 tournament.
“It was a slow start, but the intensity grew and the girls responded well,” Post Falls coach Sarah Stevens said. “Both teams had opportunities, but they had one more chance than we did, and that’s the way soccer is.”
Sandpoint hosts Moscow in a 4A Inland Empire League match on Saturday, with the start time moved up to 11 a.m. at War Memorial Field.
