Body found in Post Falls trail system
POST FALLS — A hiker discovered a body in the Q'emiln Park trail system on Sunday afternoon and police are investigating the identity of the deceased person.
"We do not suspect foul play," said Post Falls police Capt. Greg McLean.
Police believe the decomposed body is that of a male.
McLean said the hiker spotted a duffel bag on a ledge and, when he got closer to check it out, he found the body.
"It appears that the body was there for quite some time," McLean said.
McLean said empty beer cans and an empty wallet without identification was found in addition to the double bag. He declined to comment whether a weapon was found.
McLean said dental records and comparisons will help police identify the person. That information is expected to be revealed in a week or so, he said.
McLean said detectives are investigating whether the person is Michael McCorkindale, a 59-year-old man who not been seen since April 29 at his Post Falls home.
Prior to McCorkindale being reported as missing, he left a note saying he'd be in a beautiful area, according to police.
