HORSES: Matter of discipline
Discipline from anger/frustration is certainly the wrong springboard I agree. However, no discipline breeds chaos. Proper discipline makes wholeness in humans and horses. Without guidelines for behavior you begin to experience a myriad of problems. Boundaries create peace and security in all animals. In the wild the herd or pack maintain this balance.
It is unfortunate that you witnessed this event with the perspective that you did… Apparently not understanding the entire situation. I was there …the horse you mentioned was indeed acting out in a very dangerous way, toward other horses and humans. The horse was not spooked. The words used were not meant literally …(I’m sure no one else ever says anything inappropriate when getting kicked by a horse).
The horse in this situation was NOT “beaten” and did not need “rescued” but was redirected in his thinking by using a rein to circle around, back up and move his feet. Our club does not use fear as a training tool for that would only lead to more dangerous situations for the horse and human. We work with the horses to gain partnership and respect making the horse happy and the human safe. If you would like to learn about horse behavior and training tune in to HRTV many esteemed trainers do exactly what was done… Minus the figure of speech that threw it all out of context for Mrs. Muth. I encourage everyone to visit the online comments for further insight on this issue.
