NIC ROUNDUP: Cardinals sweep in volleyball

COEUR d’ALENE — Brenna Meehan had 14 kills, seven digs and two aces as the North Idaho College swept an Scenic West Athletic Conference match against the Colorado Northwestern Spartans 25-20, 25-21, 25-21 on Saturday at Christianson Gymnasium.
 
Penny Gwynn had 11 kills and nine digs, Brittany Gay 34 assists and 10 digs for NIC (11-11, 3-1 SWAC), which travels to Snow on Thursday.
Former Coeur d’Alene High standout Mariah Miller had eight kills and 12 digs for Colorado Northwestern (10-9, 1-3).

COEUR d’ALENE — Haley White had a goal and an assist as the Cardinals beat the Hawks in a Northwest Athletic Conference match at Eisenwinter Field.
“We had a lot of outstaning plays today and the score could have been larger if it hadn’t been for the good play in Columbia Basin’s goal,” NIC coach Dan Hogan said.
Meg Lowery added a goal in the 85th minute for NIC (4-3-2, 2-1-1 NWAC), which hosts Walla Walla on Wednesday.
Columbia Basin is 4-5-2, 2-3-1.

COEUR d’ALENE — The visiting Hawks scored twice to start the second half to beat the Cardinals in a Northwest Athletic Conference match at Eisenwinter Field.
“Columbia Basin came out, competed hard and capatalized on their opportunities,” NIC coach Ken Thompson said. “We were too direct from winning the ball to get behind the defense so quickly. We were too anxious to get a goal today.”
Hamidou Kante scored on an assist from Matt Howard in the 86th minute for NIC (5-4-2, 3-2-2 NWAC), which hosts Walla Walla on Wednesday.
Columbia Basin is 4-5-1, 3-4.
