WRITER: Questions are brewing
Why is there a brewery being built on the corner of Spokane Street and First Avenue in Post Falls?
1. There are nine blocks from First Avenue north to Seltice Avenue using Spokane Street that have at least eight businesses that sell alcoholic beverages. Therefore, why is another alcoholic business needed?
2. The new brewery is 1.5 blocks from Templins/Red Lion Resort, and approximately 20 steps from the Spokane Street bridge that spans the Spokane River, where a large family park for nonalcoholic recreation is located.
3. The city of Post Falls has “spent lots of money dolling up Spokane Street with dividers, plants and lights, etc.” Spokane Street has been changed from a four-lane to a two-lane road from First Avenue to Third Avenue. The extra traffic for the brewery will have a two-lane street with a two-car placement on the middle-turn lane onto First Avenue. There is also a road sign stating to share the two-lane road with bicycles.
4. Why is a brewery being built in a primary private road area with no traffic lights and a speed limit of 25 mph?
5. Parking for the brewery looks like it will be tight circumstances with the two-lane road going east on First Avenue being very narrow, with local parking for residents already taking place.
6. North of the brewery is an alley only. Therefore, traffic could become an issue on that alley with the business.
Again, I ask why?
