INSPIRED: Obama deserves credit

| October 2, 2015 9:00 PM

While reading all the news out of Rathdrum, just last week alone, I was inspired. In the Coeur d’Alene Press, the mayor of Rathdrum, Vic Holmes reminded us all that Rathdrum would not be buying land if this were 2007 or 2008.

I live in Rathdrum and take daily walks and bike rides around our neighborhoods. Building is booming with new houses being built weekly and new businesses coming here. No, it did not look like this in 2007-2008, the George W. Bush years. Almost no building was taking place and traffic on Meyer Road was almost non-existent. I know because “I can see Meyer Road From My Front Porch” to nearly paraphrase Sarah Palin. Gasoline was $4.85 per gallon and people were staying home as much as possible. Our neighbors on each side of us lost their homes to foreclosure.

Last week, the North Idaho Business Journal had an article on our new Rathdrum North Idaho College facility going up next to our recently built, KTEC on Lancaster Road. The Business Journal also had an article titled, “Apartment Market Continues To Sizzle.” Unemployment is way down, the stock market is up. You who have a 401K know you lost money during the Bush years and you also KNOW you are doing well now.

All this good news is due to the intelligent policies of President Obama. He has succeeded even with the constant obstruction of the Republicans and not one article ever gives him the credit he so richly deserves, but then I do live in a RED STATE so that is to be expected.

Recently I was talking with a young man of about 25 and he told me he had never even heard of the Savings and Loan Scandal. How many other voters like him are out there? How many young voters do not even remember the ’07-08 financial crash? Every time we have a Republican in the White House there is a financial crisis of some kind. It seems to happen each time on a Republican president’s watch.

Do you really want a repeat of a financial crisis, government shutdowns, wars based on falsehoods, ever-increasing benefits to big oil and banks “Too Big To Fail” or do you want to continue with a growing economy where men are building houses, people can afford to drive again and more Americans can afford health care? You can vote to go forward or vote to go backward. And remember this, Idaho is just one state. There is a whole big country from coast to coast. This whole country will elect the next president and apparently in the last two elections, they did not agree with Idaho. Yes, I know the election is more than a year away but in the meantime, do some research and read some facts. Oh! Yes, and give credit where credit is due.
