Medicare open enrollment ends Dec. 7

| November 26, 2015 8:00 PM

The Idaho Department of Insurance is reminding Medicare beneficiaries that open enrollment is ending soon.

The department’s Senior Health Insurance Benefits Advisors, or SHIBA, offer free, unbiased information, counseling, and assistance regarding Medicare.

“Time is running out to review plans and make any needed changes,” said department director Dean Cameron. “For most people, plan selections for 2016 must be made by Dec. 7.”

People who are losing coverage through no fault of their own, who have recently moved ZIP codes, or who receive assistance programs have additional time to make their plan selections for 2016.

SHIBA counselors are available statewide to answer questions and help Medicare beneficiaries understand their plan options. Consumers are encouraged to call SHIBA at (800) 247-4422 for information and assistance.

Consumers who are looking for a specific plan recommendation should contact a licensed insurance agent.
