COLA: Time for fairness

I’m writing to express my concerns about this year’s zero percent cost of living increase in Social Security. As a senior, I rely on Social Security benefits, and I know that our Social Security system’s only shortcoming is that its benefits are too low.

I know that our health care and other costs keep going up — but our tiny or nonexistent yearly COLAs are not keeping pace. Senator Elizabeth Warren’s SAVE Benefits Act will give a one-time payment to seniors and veterans. This can easily be paid for by closing the “performance pay” loophole that lets CEOs collect bonuses tax-free.
