PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Lawler leads Timberlake past Lapwai
LEWISTON — Keelie Lawler scored a game-high 26 points to lead the Timberlake Tigers past the Lapwai Wildcats 65-56 in the Bengal Shootout on Saturday at Booth Hall.
Timberlake (1-1) took the 5A Lewiston Bengals to the limit before a 54-52 loss on Friday night.
“Hopefully it was a good learning experience for our kids,” Timberlake coach Matt Miller said. “We’ve got a lot of things to work on on both sides of the ball. We learned a lot about ourselves, but I’m really excited for the season.”
Shiniah Holt scored 19 points for Lapwai (1-1), which beat 4A Moscow on Friday night.
Jacquelyn Mallet scored 12 points for Timberlake, which hosts East Valley on Dec. 1.

RATHDRUM — Lakeland survived a shot by Kellogg in the closing seconds that would have tied the game, winning its season opener two days after a power outage postponed its initial season opener.
“Kellogg made a nice comeback in the third quarter,” Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. “We played well in the first half. We did a good job of coming back in the fourth quarter. They had a couple of good looks and we held on.”
Faith Bodak scored 11 points, followed by Kassidy Pruitt with nine, and Tauna Kirk had 10 rebounds for Lakeland, which hosts St. Maries on Tuesday.
Andee Twidt and Kenadie Arthur had eight points each for the Wildcats (4-1), who host Wallace on Tuesday.
