HAYDEN — The city of Hayden will hold its annual Hayden Lights Parade and Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in Hayden City Park, 8930 N. Government Way, on Dec. 5.

The parade starts at 5 p.m. beginning at Hayden Avenue and will proceed south in the northbound lane of Government Way to Honeysuckle Avenue. For the best view of the parade, spectators are encouraged to stand on the east side of Government Way. Government Way will be closed to traffic during the parade, from Hayden Avenue to Honeysuckle Avenue. Roadways will be reopened to traffic once parade units have passed.

Businesses and organizations interested in participating in the parade should call the city of Hayden at 209-1080 or visit the city of Hayden website at www.cityofhaydenid.us for an application. It is free to participate in the Hayden Lights Parade — applications are due by Nov. 30.

The public is welcome to this free event. Free hot chocolate, coffee and cookies will be served in the Hayden City Park gazebo. The Christmas tree lighting ceremony will immediately follow the parade in Hayden City Park. Entertainment will include musical presentations by the Hayden Meadows and Atlas Elementary Special Choirs. The Christmas tree will be lit by Mayor Ron McIntire with the assistance of local children. The evening’s events will be highlighted by the appearance of Santa Claus, who will proceed to the Hayden City Hall Council Chambers to listen to children’s wishes and pass out treats.

Donations will be accepted for the U.S Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. This year’s event has been made possible through donations by the Boy Scouts of America-Dalton Elementary Pack 226; P1FCU; Hayden Veterans Commission; Hayden Parks, Recreation and Community Forestry Commission; and Super 1 Foods.
