ASA SOFTBALL: Xtreme takes two to open pool play at tourney

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. — Kelsey Gumm and Breana Burke combined on a four-hitter as the North Idaho Xtreme ’97 under-18 softball team beat Firecrackers Arizona 2-1 in a pool play game in the Surf City Early Thanksgiving tournament on Friday at the Huntington Beach softball complex.

Hannah Bell went 1 for 2 with an RBI in the win for the Xtreme, who also beat the Capital City Comets of Sacramento (Calif.) 11-1 in an earlier pool play game.

Burke struck out all five batters she faced, and went 1 for 2 with three runs batted in against the Comets. Kyla Stern also drove in three runs and Bell added two RBIs in the win for the Xtreme.

The Xtreme will face the San Diego Breakers, Easton Elite and Foothills Gold today as the tournament shifts to Saddleback College.
