Ilda Mae Hoffman, 89
Ilda Mae Hoffman, 89, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, passed away Nov. 14, 2015. Ilda was born on Feb. 5, 1926, in Edgeley, N.D., to John and Lillie (Brown) Hoffman.
Ilda’s family moved to Idaho in July 1947. Ilda attended and graduated from Walla Walla College in 1950 with a degree in secretarial science. She became a teacher in 1952 and taught at Coeur d’Alene High School. Ilda began her Coeur d’Alene High School teaching career at the school when it was on Seventh Street (now Phippeny Park), then on to the 15th Street location (now Lakes Middle School), and finally at the current location on Fourth Street, retiring in 1987. She taught business classes to so many students over the years, finding great satisfaction in her vocation.
Ilda was an active member of the Coeur d’Alene Seventh-day Adventist Church. She also held many offices in the North Idaho Retired Educators Association. Her hobbies included crocheting, knitting and reading biographies and autobiographies.
Ilda is survived by two brothers, Darrell Hoffman of Coeur d’Alene and Marlyn Hoffman of John Day, Ore.; two nephews, Robert Hoffman of Pendleton, Ore., and John A. Hoffman of Mt. Vernon, Wash.; one grand-nephew, John Hoffman Jr.; cousins and step-nephews, Robert Hamblen of Post Falls, Idaho, and Ernest Hamblen of Newman Lake, Wash.
A viewing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 2015, at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel, 744 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene, with a funeral service at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens following the funeral service.
