Allen C. Hensrud, 89

Allen C. Hensrud was born Nov. 26, 1926, in Mekinock, N.D., to parents Wallace and Euphemia Hensrud. He was the eldest of three children. He went to be with the Lord on Nov. 15, 2015.

Al served his country in World War II, in the Navy. Upon his honorary discharge, he returned home and married Agnes Bier in 1948. They began careers at GTE, sending them on a journey form North Dakota to Washington, and ending in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Along the way, they adopted two daughters, Lori and Jo.

Our dad enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, baseball and apple pie. Truly a kind and humble man who served his country and family well. He left a lasting impression to everyone he encountered and will be dearly missed.

Aggie preceded him in death in 2005. He was a devoted husband, caring for her through the years and during her battle with Alzheimer’s.

Al spent his remaining years volunteering for various organizations to numerous to list. He found new love with his constant companion, Joyce. They enjoyed seven special years together. He also enjoyed lunches and almost daily games of cribbage with his best friend, George.

He is survived by his brother, Donald and sister Alice Gustafson; daughters Lori Welding and Jo St. John (Jim); granddaughters Aubrey Welding, Lyndsey Metz (Josh), Jennifer Chastek (Scott), Kristin Nau (John) and Kari Waleri (Mike); and great-grandchildren Celeste, Maddis and Bridger.

Services to be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Viewing at noon. Reception immediately following from 2-4 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church.
