There are numerous reports of downed trees and power lines throughout the region due to the high, damaging winds now in our area.

Kootenai Electric Cooperative currently has 2,600 members without power, mainly in the Spirit Lake, Twin Lakes and Athol areas, due to trees on power lines.

Avista is reporting 261 customers without power in Spirit Lake, 99 in Rathdrum and Post Falls and 66 south of Coeur d’Alene.

North Idaho College has canceled all evening classes and activities that begin after 4 p.m. The NIC Children’s Center is closed. The children were evacuated to a lower level of the Student Union Building because a tree fell causing damage to the center.

“No one has been harmed or is in imminent danger. The Children’s Center will contact parents according to their evacuation procedure,” stated an advisory sent out by college officials.
