Craig Thomas Ochenkoski, 35
Craig passed away peacefully on Nov. 5, 2015. He was born in Richmond, Va., on Aug. 4, 1980, to very young parents and was adopted at only 5 weeks old by Susan and Jim Ochenkoski.
He was a happy child but it soon became evident that his mind was unsettled. He excelled at school in his early elementary years only to struggle more and more as time went on. He moved with his family from Newport News, Va., to Rathdrum, Idaho, at age 15 with hopes that a fresh start would serve him well. It did, but not for long. He continued to battle mental illness throughout his adult life, succumbing many times to the short-term promises of self-medication.
Through all his troubles, however, Craig found pleasure in his music, his techno-toys and fantasy football! But most of all he loved his family, and he wanted nothing more than to be the best Dad he could be.
Craig is survived by Jessica Geiger, his wife of 10 years, who, with their daughter Helena, continued to love him regardless of how hard Craig made it to do so. Craig is also survived by two grandmothers; his Mom and Dad; his sister, Karen; sons Berrick, Kaden and Asher; nephews Blake and Gaige; and many extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, look up and play Green Day song “Time of Your Life,” and give your family a hug.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. today, Nov. 9, 2015, at English Funeral Chapel, 1133 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Private burial will take place at Pinegrove Cemetery in Rathdrum.
