COEUR d’ALENE — Transfer Brayon (BJ) Blake had 28 points and five rebounds in his debut for the North Idaho College men’s basketball team, an 89-74 season-opening victory over the Sheridan (Wyo.) College Generals on Friday night at Rolly Williams Court.

“It was a great night for offensively,” said NIC coach Corey Symons of Blake, who transferred from Cochise College in Arizona. “Both him and Braian (Angola-Rodas) had big nights for us. It was a great win. Sheridan’s a good, athletic team. It was a great win to start the season for us.”

Angola-Rodas had 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists for NIC (1-0), which faces South Mountain on Thursday in Somerton, Ariz.

Sheridan 6-foot-8 forward Christian Williams, who had been averaging 21 rebounds per game in the Generals first two games, was held to three rebounds.

“He’s a really athletic player,” Symons said of Williams. “If you put a body on him, it will slow him down a little bit and Kyle (Guice) did a great job on him tonight.”

COEUR d’ALENE — Freshman Alyssa Case scored 18 points for the Cardinals in a nonconference loss to the Generals at Rolly Williams Court.

“We didn’t shoot the ball very well and didn’t execute like we did last night,” NIC coach Chris Carlson said. “Sheridan played us tougher and we didn’t play that good. Alyssa played a great game and came ready to play. She was very active and didn’t have any turnovers. We were really happy with her game.”

NIC (1-1) beat Sheridan 98-78 in the season opener on Thursday.

Shelby Cloninger had 16 points, three assists and seven rebounds for NIC, which hosts the Whitworth JV on Nov. 16 at 5:30 p.m.
