Tail-Waggin' Chili Cookoff to benefit animals
HAYDEN — North Idaho Cider will offer plenty of help warming up on Saturday, Nov. 14.
The business at 11000 Airport Way across from Resort Aviation will host its Tail-Waggin' Chili Cookoff from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. that will offer fun for the whole family.
Attendees will be able to warm up with chili, cider, fire pits and furry friends as the event will benefit the Kootenai Humane Society.
"This time of year it's easy to donate dog or cat food, but the simple bottom line is that it takes cash to pay the bills," said Keith Allen, North Idaho Cider's chief marketing officer and one of three co-owners.
The cost is $20 for adults, which includes a cider, beer or soda of your choice and unlimited chili samples. Children 12 and younger cost $5, which includes a non-alcoholic cider, soda and chili. The cost for teens is $10.
Hot dogs and items for s'mores will be available for purchase. All of those proceeds will benefit the KHS, along with a portion of the cider sales.
There will also be live music, vendors and dogs available for adoption.
Drinks will also be available for purchase, even if attendees choose not to buy the chili samplings.
Allen said he expects 15 to 20 people will enter their chili in the contest that will feature three judges. Entry fee is $40. Half of the cost will go toward the winners, while half will benefit the KHS. Entrants are required to enter a minimum of 2 gallons of chili.
There will also be a People's Choice Award for attendees to vote on.
Those interested in entering chili should call 660-9240 or email lori@northidahocider.com. The deadline to enter is Wednesday.
"If your friends or family have told you that you make great chili, we encourage you to bring it out to the competition," Allen said.
