Jamison Jacobsen, 13

| November 6, 2015 8:00 PM

Jamison was an extraordinary child. From the moment his spirit touched the Earth and he drew his first breath until he breathed his last, he penetrated every moment with exuberance. Knowing Jamison was like touching fire. His love, joy and infectious laughter surrounded him as did his never-ending inquisitive questions and comments.

“Did you know cat-lovers make better partners because they are more emotionally connected?” as he sharpened his fingernails into a point.

“Mom, did you know that you should not travel closer than 10 feet to another moving vehicle?” as he read the driving manual for fun sitting in his car booster chair at 5.

Always pushing the limits, Jamison did everything at 150 percent and 200 mph. He did first and thought about it later. His love for pushing limits pressed him to explore and experiment and his agility lent him the ability to press far ahead of his peers in many ways.

Though introverted, Jamison had a solid group of friends that shared his life at school. He never had a need to be with many people — although he would share his laughter, humor and smile with anyone who passed him by. His inward quest to find answers kept him watching YouTube videos on science, spirituality, chess, parkour or any other thing that was on his mind and his Internet browser history was always filled with Wikipedia searches.

Jamison’s light shone beyond his body and his spirit was always too big to be contained. He did as he chose and made no excuses for why he did what he did. His thirst for life was at times incomprehensible and his fire lit up every place he visited. His zest for living; his way of looking at the world and how he questioned everything and accepted what could not be understood is what made him shine so brightly.

Though Jamison leaves behind this physical world he is still here in spirit. In his honor, let us not mourn for his death, but let us each take his fire in and enable us to shine purer and brighter than ever before. Let it inspire us to be all that we can be and to make the difference we are each meant to make while we are in this world.

You are fire

Torn edges

Pushing the limits of reality

Mind, heart, soul, spirit, body

Always touching the flame

One touch too close

And you transitioned this plane

Burst into light

Burn higher

Lead us home, Jamison
