Elinor Mae Diltz, 96

Elinor Mae Diltz, 96, of Dalton Gardens, passed away Nov. 2, 2015. Elinor was born July 9, 1919, in Wallace, Idaho, to George and Ida (Hammond) Mortimer.

She graduated from the University of Idaho in 1940, then moved to San Diego, Calif. In 1942, Mom met and married the love of her life, our dad, Lloyd Diltz in Ocean Beach, Calif. They moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1948 to be close to family, where together they raised their four daughters.

She held offices in the Borah School PTA and was a substitute teacher in the Coeur d’Alene School District.

Elinor was the Children’s Librarian at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library from 1964 to 1980. She and Lloyd were members of the Kootenai Medical Auxiliary beginning in 1984. Elinor retired at 90 years of age.

Elinor is survived by daughters Barbara Hirsch, Joanne (Doug) Van Devanter, Patricia (Mike) Ivie and Laurel Hadley; along with six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Elinor was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd, and their infant son.
