Two arrested in suspected burglary
POST FALLS — Two suspected burglars were arrested near Post Falls after allegedly returning to the scene of the crime Tuesday.
According to a press release from the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, a Post Falls couple was checking on the vacant residence of a deceased family member in the 18000 block of W. Riverview when they found that the residence and an outbuilding might have been burglarized.
When the couple went back to the residence later to set up lights and secure the premises to make it look like it was occupied, they observed a suspicious sport utility vehicle drive slowly by the house and then turn around and drive back by, this time pulling into the driveway.
The family members turned on their headlights, revealing themselves to the suspected burglars, and the SUV left the driveway going eastbound on Riverview toward Spokane Street.
KCSO deputies intercepted the SUV and stopped it at Spokane Street and First Avenue in Post Falls. The driver of the SUV was identified as Andrea E. Evitts, 39, and her passenger was identified as John D. Clark, 41, both of Post Falls.
Evitts was initially arrested on an outstanding warrant for driving on an invalid license and possession of drug paraphernalia. Following an inventory of the SUV, deputies located numerous items belonging to the deceased homeowner as well as the other family members.
Those items included license plates, driver’s licenses, jewelry, military service medals/ribbons and miscellaneous tools.
Both Evitts and Clark gave conflicting accounts of how they came to possess the property and were eventually arrested on a myriad of charges to include burglary, grand theft, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools and criminal possession of financial transaction cards.
Additionally, Evitts was booked into jail for her outstanding warrant, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of methamphetamine.
