LEGION BASEBALL: Lumbermen win Dahlgren tourney

| May 26, 2015 9:00 PM

MISSOULA, Mont. - Gibson Green and Elliott Sparks had three RBIs apiece and Steven Vaudriel added a couple more as the Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen hammered the Kalispell Lakers 11-4 to finish round-robin play on Monday morning at the Dale Dahlgren Memorial Day Tournament.

Coeur d'Alene finished round-robin play at 4-0, and faced the Lakers again in the championship game in the afternoon.

Sam Slusser took control on the mound, and Jared Hall's RBI single in the seventh was "probably the biggest RBI of the day," according to Lumbermen coach Zach Clanton.

"It was a two-out shot that gave us a bit of insurance."

Clanton said Slusser's performance on the mound "was exactly what I want in my pitching staff."

Slusser pitched a complete-game, five-strikeout gem to hand Coeur d'Alene the title.

"He's a kid that played select baseball last year and moved from Boise. We got him to come back here for his senior year, and he controlled the tempo all game."

The Lumbermen (5-0) open league play on Wednesday, hosting a doubleheader vs. Prairie at 4 and 6 p.m.
