The Lt. George Farragut Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution announced the chapter winners of the annual American History Essay Contest. The contest was open to students in public, private or parochial schools and those who are home-schooled.

Students in grades five through eight were asked to submit an essay on the topic of "A Child's Journey Through Ellis Island." Chapter winners are Christina Connelly, a sixth-grade home-schooled student from Rathdrum and Talia Walsmith, a seventh-grade student at River City Middle School in Post Falls.

High school students submitted essays on "Joining Christopher Columbus on His Voyage to the New World." Ronelle Stanton from Lake City High School was the high school winner.

Chapter Regent Connie McGee visited the chapter winners and presented certificates to each. Topics for the 2015-2016 contest will be announced in September.

Membership in Daughters of the American Revolution is open to any woman age 18 or older who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution. Lt. George Farragut Chapter meets the third Friday of the month, September through May. Anyone interested in DAR may call Jane at 457-8531 for additional details.
