COEUR d'ALENE - Support for the Moore family continues to pour in from the community, nation and those abroad.

Bud Arce, who created benefit accounts at a local bank and online to support the family of fallen Coeur d'Alene police Sgt. Greg Moore, said a total of about $160,000 was raised during the first six days after the tragedy.

"That's incredible," said Arce, a founder of the nonprofit Kootenai County Police and Fire Memorial Foundation which established an account at Umpqua Bank in Coeur d'Alene.

"It's sad to say, but we knew this day would be coming."

Arce said the account at the bank had nearly $85,000 as of Monday, while a GoFundMe online account had $75,166.

"The support has been overwhelming," said Arce, adding that he believes many communities would not rally as much. "We live in a unique community."

Moore, a well-liked, 16-year veteran of Coeur d'Alene Police, was shot and killed in the line of duty last Tuesday. He was 43.

Moore was on a routine neighborhood patrol on Wilbur Avenue on the north side of Coeur d'Alene and died at Kootenai Health later that day.

The suspect, Jonathan D. Renfro, 26, Rathdrum, is being held at the Kootenai County jail. He was arrested in Post Falls a few hours after the alleged shooting and is accused of fleeing in Moore's patrol car after the incident.

Arce said people ranging from young local kids to business owners to folks from across the nation and other countries have chipped in, wanting to help.

"We've had donations from as far as Australia," Arce said.

Arce said he's received several inquiries from businesses wanting to hold upcoming fundraisers, including Buffalo Wild Wings and Qdoba Mexican Grill, Moore's favorite place to eat.

Mad Bomber Brewing Company will hold a fundraiser at 9265 N. Government Way in Hayden on Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. Twenty percent of taproom sales and all food sales and raffle/auction proceeds will go toward the Greg and Lindy Moore Fund at Umpqua Bank, 1106 Sherman Ave., Coeur d'Alene. Food will be provided by Blue Smoke BBQ.

Greg and Lindy, a third-grade teacher at Ramsey Magnet School of Science in Coeur d'Alene, have a 1-year-old daughter named Gemma. Greg also has a son Dylon, a sixth-grader at Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy.

Tim Schuette, an Oregon state trooper, said Moore can't be replaced but he wants the family to know that he's available whenever needed.

"I think the only way any of us can do this job is knowing that should we fall, our families will be taken care of the way that yours will be," he said.

Even those who don't know the family offered their condolences and said they've learned from the tragedy.

"As I watch (Moore's) service on live TV, I learn that he was a remarkable person and he touched many lives," Ashley Farrar wrote on the GoFundMe site. "I can even say he touched mine. This makes me think of my life and I realize I take way too much for granted. Today I'm going to change that."

John and Diane Brumley, Dylon's grandparents, wrote a letter to the editor to The Press thanking people for their support.

"God has richly blessed us to live in this community and we could not be more proud to call it home," they wrote.
