REED: One amazing man

Scott Reed was our friend and our attorney.

A great environmentalist, he was instrumental in advising the Greater Squaw Bay Homeowners Association in stopping a pit mine above the bay. His knowledge and application of the law saved the bay from pollution of water and air.

He loved good theater. The Reeds often attended the Oregon Shakespeare Festival twice each season so as to savor every play. He facilitated the transfer of an existing nonprofit charter to The Friends of North Idaho Opera and the Arts, now, Opera Coeur d’Alene, so that the opera company could begin organizing. He came to love opera.

It can be said that Scott Reed savored life in all of its fine forms. He loved his wife, Mary Lou, and admired and respected women as equals: professionally and socially. He had amazing recall and applied the law with a thorough understanding of its power and possibilities. He did this with courage, vision, and, often humor.

We are better people for having him in our lives.
