AARP Idaho branch to host consumer fraud forum in Cd'A

| May 7, 2015 9:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE - Last year con artists successfully targeted more than 13 million Americans and stole a total of $18 billion.

In an effort to prevent residents of North Idaho from being part of that statistic, the American Association of Retired Persons Idaho branch is hosting a consumer fraud forum. The free event begins at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Salvation Army Kroc Center in Coeur d'Alene.

The forum features presentations and discussion from the University of Idaho, Idaho Department of Insurance, Coeur d'Alene Police Department, and Idaho Rep. Luke Malek. According to a press release, the forum is designed to give participants the tools they need to protect themselves from fraud and identity theft.

Topics during the event, which ends at 1:45 p.m., include protecting personal identity, local scams and frauds, home crime prevention, understanding con artist tactics and detecting Medicare fraud.

Reservations for the free event can be made by calling 1-877-926-8300 or by visiting www.aarp.org/id. Registration is also available the day of the forum beginning at 8:30 a.m.

A free light breakfast and complimentary lunch will be provided to attendees.
