LCDC: Clear vision needed

| May 3, 2015 9:00 PM

On Wednesday, May 6, LCDC is holding a meeting at the Kroc Center. On the agenda is annual strategic planning. This need underscores a key flaw of the LCDC and why I take issue with the organization.

According to Idaho Code, Urban Renewal Agencies are required to operate according to a published plan. I fail to see the necessity for LCDC to hold annual strategic planning sessions unless their plan is so weak and ineffective that it cannot be followed.

LCDC acknowledges that it suffers from a poor public image. Holding annual meetings that keep the public guessing on how it’s going to spend millions of taxpayer dollars doesn’t help that image. To improve itself, and add to transparency, I would suggest that LCDC adopt a permanent plan, take it seriously, and share it with the public.
