Harold G. Royal
Harold G. Royal quietly passed in his sleep on March 13, 2015, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
Harold was born in Powell, Wyo., to Quincy and Lula Royal in 1932 where he grew up and went to school. On Jan. 13, 1952, in the town of Billings, Mont., he married a beautiful girl named Fern Gienger. A union that would last to this day, a love that will last always. Together they raised one son, Glen, who currently lives in Kennewick, Wash.
Always a hard-working man, Harold worked for Armour's in N.C. and Spokane, he drove long haul trucks and even owned two restaurants; one in Red Lodge, Mont., and later in Escalon, Calif. After retirement, Harold and Fern moved to Coeur d'Alene, where he took a job at the newly opened Costco in town. For 13 years Harold faithfully greeted customers at Costco, and had a smile and a story for everyone while his wife Fern demonstrated food products. His warmth and genuine caring for other people are unmatched in this day and age of fast-paced, get in and get out lifestyle. As he's been out ill in the past a little bit, there's not a day that goes by that someone doesn't stop another employee and ask, "Where's Harold? We just love him." Harold is a class act and a true gentleman, a reminder of days gone by, when people were more important than the products. As with many in the older generation, Harold didn't have many hobbies, but his greatest joy in life was to go fishing in the Grand Tetons of Wyoming.
Harold is survived by his loving wife, Fern; his son Glen; his grandchildren: David Royal, April May, Christie Alvarez, Christopher Royal, and Marissa Jones; as well as many special friends and extended family.
Harold will be loved and missed by all who were lucky enough to have known him. He may not have been rich and famous, but he lived up to his name ... Royal.
In honor of Harold, please take a minute to share a smile and a story with someone you see today.
The service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Coeur d'Alene just north of Appleway at 3115 N. 15th St. Pastor Jim Williams will preside. A reception following the services will be furnished by Costco and held at the church.
Sympathy cards for the family may be sent to Fern at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3115 N. 15th St., Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, 83815.
