LIGHTWORKS: Big idea for tiny houses
Great two-part article on LightWorks. It’s been a long time coming for our community. A program that truly rehabilitates, changing people with bad life habits into productive members of society and thereby reducing the recidivism rate. Thank you to the Coeur d’Alene Press for printing this series.
If LightWorks is willing to expand, this big idea could get even bigger! Idaho is high on the list for keeping low level offenders in jail for a much longer duration than other states. Offer this program to all low level offenders currently spending time in our jails. This would eliminate the need for taxpayers to fund jail expansions, teaches life skills, therapeutic work ethic and truly rehabilitates.
LightWorks could expand on the tiny house idea by having low level inmates trained by working in other areas teaching life skills. Offer them programs in an organic farm environment. This would help in making our jails self-sufficient, lessening the taxpayer burden. Any surplus food could go to our local food banks. LightWorks could open a farmers market and the proceeds would go to further expansions in other areas.
The possibilities are endless!
