Marvin Quinten Kovatch, 66
Marvin Quinten Kovatch, 66, known to many as "Butch," passed away July 25, 2015, at his home in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
Marvin was born on Oct. 22, 1948, in Spirit Lake, Idaho. He grew up in Coeur d'Alene and graduated from Coeur d'Alene High School in 1966. He attended North Idaho College and then the University of Idaho where he studied electrical engineering. He was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served as a medic and was stationed in Korea. When he returned from his military service, he began work as a logging truck driver, which led him to work for Turnbull Logging.
In 1974 he married Patricia Turnbull and they lived in Dalton Gardens with their two children, Ty and Kara, until their divorce in 1994. Marvin started Kovatch Logging in 1984 after purchasing his own logging truck, and shortly after added a crane to his operation. In 1990, he became a contractor for Inland Empire Paper Company where he worked until he retired in 2005.
Marvin was a kind man who was a tenacious provider for his family. He was tough as nails right through the final moments of his life, and twice as stubborn as he was tough. He was funny, generous and sentimental, and he is remembered well by those he loved.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Steve Kovatch; his mother, Genevieve Fears and father Steve Kovatch. He is survived by his son, Ty Kovatch and wife Betsy of Portland, Ore.; grandchildren Ryan and Katie Kovatch; his daughter, Kara Lemmon and husband Jef of Coeur d'Alene; and grandchildren Zoey and Hatty Lemmon; his sister, Dana Kinsey of Hauser Lake, Idaho; and brother John of Sagle, Idaho.
A celebration of Marvin's life will be held beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2015, at the Hayden Lake Eagles outdoor picnic area located at 1520 W. Wyoming, Hayden. Parking access is near the intersection of Ramsey Road and Wyoming.
