BERRIES: Plenty for all pickers

| July 29, 2015 9:00 PM

The huckleberries were early this year. We picked the latter part of June and four of us picked on July 8. We picked almost 4 gallons in 3 and 1/2 hours. We still find huckleberries galore and too many government roads that are now gated where they thrive.

Pinehurst Bakery and other businesses have depended on local patrons who sold their bounty. Some people pay their taxes by picking berries and we applaud them. Why would anyone fine SOMEONE when our mountains help them survive?

We hope you know that fruit needs to be pruned. On July 26 there were quite a few tiny green berries on our hills so ya’ll come after the rain. It is a game, so don’t ask us where. There is still plenty for the bears.
