Realtors honor local heroes
We are always humbled when we see our industry come together for a cause. Like no other, the real estate industry pairs competitors for a common cause creating a momentum that does a world of good for our community. While during working hours we compete for control of the same business opportunities, we are comrades when raising money to help the communities within North Idaho.
No greater display of this camaraderie is seen than at the Coeur d'Alene Association of Realtors' annual benefit golf tournament. When 200 people; title company sponsors, insurance agents, home inspectors, lenders and Realtors get together and become friends. Tireless volunteers make sure that everything runs smoothly and no need is unaddressed, all the while smiling.
Hole sponsors put their best feet forward, providing nourishment and making sure all the golfers stay hydrated. Many have games and prizes that add a festive mood to create anything but a run of the mill golf contest. They invest their time and money willingly knowing that the funds raised by this event will serve the greater good while improving their own relationships with the folks they do business with.
Our beneficiary this year is the Kootenai County Fire & Police Memorial Foundation. The foundation's mission statement is simple and clear: "It is the mission of our Foundation to provide financial grants to Kootenai County first responders and their families who experience unforeseen catastrophic circumstances including death, illness, and injury." The Memorial Foundation provides financial grants to Kootenai County first responders (including volunteer firefighters) and their families who experience unforeseen catastrophic circumstances including death, illness and injury.
The foundation also offers a scholarship for children and step-children of first responders employed in Kootenai County. Often it is those first responders themselves who are creating events to raise money for their own cause. With the shooting death of Sgt. Greg Moore our community was shocked into the reality that it can happen here. First responders from across the nation came to honor Moore and awareness and compassion within our own community swelled.
We Realtors too realize the daily sacrifices of our own first responders and this year we chose to support the foundation. The participation of competitors working together raised $8,000 to support them in their noble cause to provide assistance to their brothers and sisters. We want them to know we appreciate them and their daily dedication to protect and serve. Thank you.
